Health & Wellness

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has adopted a proactive health and wellness program to promote the improved physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of its members. Statistics have shown that such programs may significantly aid in lowering employers' health care costs, overtime costs, and any potential costs associated with on-the-job injuries. For the employer, absenteeism, sick leave, and short and long-term disability costs are significant and place a potential strain on the Department's operational abilities. Our health and wellness programs focus on educating our members in ways they may improve their well-being through physical activity, proper nutrition, and healthy mental and emotional outlets. The Department believes that with these programs in place, as well as regular physical exams and access to peer fitness trainers, our members may avoid potential injuries and illness both on the job, and off.
