The Community Risk Reduction for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department is a system and process in which programs, actions, and services within our community are utilized to prevent injuries; loss of life; loss of property; and damage to the environment. Community Risk Reduction activities identify and prioritize risks and apply resources in a coordinated manner to minimize the probability and severity of occurrence of fire, natural disasters, and man-made disasters.
“The fire department exists not only to respond to emergencies after the fact but to prevent or reduce the effects of their occurrence in the first place. It means the fire service will (and should) act proactively as a risk reduction entity for the community.”
