BIFD Awards and Special Recognition


2023 Heart Safe Community Award: This award is presented to fire service-based EMS agencies that have played a key role in improving the quality of out-of-hospital treatment of heart disease, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and resuscitation efforts.

2022 Fire Chief of the Year Award: The Washington State Fire Chiefs recognized Fire Chief Hank Teran for his strong leadership, endurance, patience, and professional conduct, meeting the highest ideals of a professional chief officer within Washington State.

2022 Firefighter of the Year Award: The Washington Detachment of the American Legion presented Bainbridge Island Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jared Moravec with its Firefighter of the Year award. The award recognizes Moravec’s work with Bainbridge Prepares, the City of Bainbridge Island, and other partners for their COVID-19 response.

2022 Voluntary Organization of the Year Award: The International Association of Emergency Managers

2011 Tony Pini Diversity & Inclusion Award: This award recognized the BIFD's outstanding work in building and nourishing a diverse and inclusive fire department culture, fostering proactive relationships, and building trust with their multicultural communities.
